Dear Monty South Community

During Leanne’s absence I am ‘holding down the fort’ as the Acting Principal. This first week has been an extremely busy week at Monty South. On Wednesday 31 July there was a lovely atmosphere around the school as parents and students wandered around the grounds whilst waiting for their conferences to start. I would like to thank everyone who participated in these meetings – staff, parents and students. It is a great opportunity to not only discuss the students’ progress but to reinforce the links between home and school. This partnership is important in developing well rounded individuals and like our motto says ‘Together we learn, lead and achieve’.

When our Preps arrived on Thursday they looked decidedly older than when they left from their conferences on Wednesday. They had finally reached 100 days of school so there were celebrations all round. What a milestone!

Thursday was also an exciting day for our Year 1 students as they participated in an incursion – ‘Our Amazing Bodies’. The show enabled the children to take a look at what our bodies look like on the inside! They had the opportunity to investigate bones and the skeleton and then some of our main internal organs (brain, heart, lungs, kidney and liver).

Our Bridges to School Program has now been running for two weeks and the children have settled in extremely well.  From Leanne’s office I have had a great vantage point to watch all of them running around and playing on the playground equipment. Thank you to Chelsea, Carmie, Bev, Vicky and Jay for welcoming our newcomers and supporting them in their transition to school.

As well as all of the student-centred activities that have been happening around the school, there has also been a hive of activity with regard to the landscaping around the new building. It has been wonderful to see the grounds come to life with the new plantings. In order for the new plants and lawn to take hold properly, you will notice that some areas have been roped off to discourage students from walking through these areas. This will ensure our gardens flourish and the lawns will be lovely areas where students can spend time with their friends.

The students love the new spaces they have to explore and they are enjoying spending time in our lovely new library each Tuesday and Wednesday lunchtime as well as having access to the gym during either lunch or recess depending on their year level. This is on top of their weekly trip to the park.

Each week brings us closer to reaching the conclusion of all the building works and we won’t know ourselves with the new oval and staff carpark.

I look forward to ‘keeping the seat warm’ for Leanne until she returns from her well-deserved holiday with her extended family. We have heard that she is becoming an experienced sightseer and of course she is still finding time to maintain her fitness with regular swims.

Have a great weekend.

MSPS Fete 2020

Montmorency South Primary School supported by the Parent and Friends Committee (P&F) has decided to hold a Fete on Sunday 15th March 2020. This is to celebrate the journey over several years in achieving a fabulous new school building and improved learning environment.

A School Fete is an enormous undertaking, one which will require assistance from our school community. We are seeking expressions of interest to assist in many areas such as co-organising the event, offering services or talents and to volunteering on the day.

This Wednesday,  7th August at 7:30pm within MSPS (location to be confirmed) a meeting has been arranged to provide an overview of the current planning for the fete, along with organising small working parties in the areas of Sponsorship, Donations, Market Stalls and Entertainment.  Should this be of interest to you please email msps.pandf@gmail.com to register your interest or attend the meeting this Wednesday night.

We would love to hear your thoughts and greatly appreciate your input and assistance.

Thank you
The MSPS Parents and Friends Committee
