Dear Monty South Community       
 
New build update
 
At this stage, we are still on track to move into the new building on July 4. We are hoping to be handed the keys on July 1 and then start to move in from then. Removalists have been booked for July 4 and July 5 to move major items. Our new furniture and goods will be delivered to the new building that week. The Vic Smart router is being linked on July 3 so we will not have access to all parts of the building or internet, so we cannot move major items on that day.
 
If you have visited the school recently, you will have noticed we have contracted ‘Simply Organised’ to declutter and help us box up our equipment. Amy Revell, Jacqui Rapsey and Vicki have been doing a sensational job and I have finally got my storeroom books down to one box. We hope to hold a garage sale of all school items we will not be taking into the new building. More details to follow on this.
 
At this stage, only nine classes (Prep and Year 2) will be moving to the new building. The building will hold 12 to 14 classes, depending on class size. Next year we will fill the building. 
 
Again, a reminder that in the second week of the school holidays, everyone has to be off the premises as they are removing the asbestos from Block A. Once completed, demolition of Block A will occur and the current Year 2 portables will be removed by the department in preparation for the construction of the staff carpark on July 16.
 
While the new term will commence on Monday 15 July, Prep and Year 2 classes may not be fully functioning for a few days. Parents of Prep and Year 2 students are welcome to come in as per usual but we ask that parents of the other year levels, refrain from coming in for a week until we are settled. We will then run tours before and after school so that you can all see the new building. 
 
There will be an official opening at some stage, once the department informs us. 
 
Camp Australia Fee increase and possible extension of hours
 
We have received notification from Camp Australia that there will be an increase in fees for in the new financial year after July 1.  These can be found on the Camp Australia website. 
 
I did contact the Regional Manager as I felt the fees had only just increased. A Camp Australia representative said they were in line with the cost of living increases and reflected inflation.   
 
Additionally, I have been contacted by a parent who was keen for the hours of Camp Australia to be extended to 6.30pm. I have asked Camp Australia to extend the hours but they want to see if there is a need so they’re going to survey the parents who currently use the service of their preference. 
 
Staff news
 
We welcome Linda Hadbolt as our new 0.2 Art specialist. Linda will be replacing Shirley O’Neill who is currently on family leave.  
We also say goodbye, for Term 3 to Mandy Redfern, who has been selected for a secondment to the central office of the Department of Education.  Mandy was selected as part of the Pathways programme and will be working on department resources for schools in relation to student voice and student agency in the curriculum.  During her secondment, we will be employing a number of casual relief teachers to take on Mandy’s roles within the school.  Mandy will re-join us in Term 4.

School Council
 
School Council met last Tuesday evening and considered a number of issues outlined below:
 
School Council structure
 
We have noted the Education and Facilities school council subcommittees have not been meeting regularly and there has not been interest from community members to attend. We decided to begin trialling a new school council structure in Term 3, to include a rotation of formal school council meetings and open meetings to discuss major school issues eg. homework, communication and bullying prevention policies. In these open meetings, we encourage attendance and input from all community members and so, will communicate the time and topic via Compass.
 
Communication
 
Our school communication policy will be placed on our website to provide all community members access. As part of this policy, we are drafting an out of office reply that will be automatically sent to parents when an email is sent outside of working hours. It was discussed that the best option for urgent requests is to contact the classroom teacher via phone rather than email as teachers are usually away from their computers during school hours.
School oval
 
School council are continuing their discussions about the best possible option for our new school oval. This decision is currently at tender.
 
Funding opportunities
 
School council was informed that the Pick My Project initiative is running again this year. More information to come.
 
Reports
 
Principal- Provided an update on school build and staff replacements for maternity leave positions.
Finance- School currently in surplus.
Parents and Friends- Reported on early discussions surrounding next year’s fete.
 
School council consists of the following members:

Prep and Year 1 gets a visit.
Thank you to Alana and Michael Torn-Broers (Billy PD and Cooper 1A) for coming along and providing an insight into both their roles at Virgin airline.  The children were thrilled and couldn’t contain their excitement.  It was also great to hear their questions which we love to hear as it shows their natural curiosity.  (see photo attached).

Podcast recommendation
I listened to a podcast this week which I highly recommend to parents, particularly those with children who are on the Autism Spectrum.
The podcast is called the ‘Art of Decluttering’ and whilst I love all the episodes as they are full of practical ideas and tips, this was especially helpful.  Simply called Autism, the link is as follows:

 MSPS achievers
 
Thumbs up to the following achievers from our Monty South community:
 
Congratulations to Jessika Blair 3C who joined a sports aerobic team back in February and has taken to the sport so well, she competed at the State Sports Aerobic Championships in Geelong recently. Her team received a gold medal. (see photo attached)

Data reporting conference – Camp Australia available
 
On Wednesday 31 July we will be holding our data reporting conferences. This is a student free day and students are expected to attend the parent/teacher conferences. Camp Australia (OHSC) will be available on this day. 
 
Athletics day
 
The MSPS Athletics day for the year 3-6 cohort will be held on Friday 21 June. There are a few events which because of time restrictions need to be held at a different time. 
 
Trials for the triple jump, 200m, 800m and 1500m were to be held at Willinda Park today but have been postponed due to the weather. We will advise on a new date and time ASAP.
 
Second hand uniform sale
 
The Parents and Friends Group will be holding a second hand uniform sale on Friday 14 June in the morning on the front deck.
We welcome donations of good quality school uniform items. All monies raised go directly back to MSPS.
Please bring your good quality, CLEAN items for sale to the office on or before Thursday 13 June.
