Camp lost property
We have recently had two camp groups return and they have bought with them a collection of unclaimed personal property.

If you feel that something did not come home with your child, please pop in and speak to someone in the office.

Anything not collected by Friday 8 November will be sent to the BER with our general lost property.

Poppy Appeal
It is that time of year again.  We have poppies, pins, wrist bands, keyrings ranging in price from $1 to $5 to sell on behalf of the Montmorency RSL.  These are currently available at the office will be on sale each day until November 11.

War on Waste
Composting:
As part of Monty South's War on Waste, we are aiming to start composting again in every classroom. This will have a huge impact on reducing the amount of waste we are sending to landfill however we need some parent helpers to ensure the smooth running of this program.
We are currently looking for adult volunteers who would be willing to help out once a week (on either Tuesday or Friday) in the garden between 3-3:30pm.
This does not entail any heavy work, you will simply be helping to supervise students weighing, emptying and cleaning out their class compost bins.
If you are interested in either helping out regularly (or going on a standby list to fill-in from time to time), please contact Tara on 0429 478 261.

Back to school financial assistance

Each year, DVCS runs a Back to School Program aimed at supporting low income families in need of financial assistance with education expenses. This program is available to families who live in the Banyule City Council area and have an address showing on their Centrelink card in one of the following suburbs: Briar Hill, Bundoora (part of), Eltham North (part of), Greensborough (part of), Lower Plenty, Montmorency, St Helena and Watsonia.
Starting from November 1 2019, DVCS will provide eligible clients with funding of $100 per child (up to a maximum of $500 per family with five or more children). Funding is available in the form of:

  • Prepaid Vouchers for the purchase of text books and other items from North of the Yarra Booksellers
  • Payment via electronic funds transfer (EFT) direct to nominated schools.

For those who live in Nillumbik, there is another education assistance program called KidsAssist, which provides a similar level of funding and is available all year round (see brochure attached).

Second Hand Uniform Sale – Friday 15 November
The P&F are running a second-hand uniform sale on Friday 15 Nov from 8:30-9:30am outside the gym.
Second-hand uniforms needed! Donations of clean, used uniforms needed to restock after the building move. Please leave at the front office up until the day of the sale. All funds raised go towards projects at the school.

Working Bee – Sunday 17 November

With the completion of the main works to the school ground complete, we can now look at many maintenance requirements for the rest of the school grounds.

Please join the Environment and Facilities Committee at the only working bee for 2019.

We have a list of jobs that need doing around the school grounds. This includes weeding, painting/re-staining woodwork, sweeping/leaf blowing, whipper-snipping and spreading pine-bark to name a few tasks.

One very important and skilled job is paving. We have terracotta brick pavers that we would love to lay around areas of the school but we need skilled help for this job. If you are able to do so please let us know. This job will require some planning prior to the working bee.

Please bring any tools required for the above jobs and your gloves and we'll get stuck into it for three hours followed by a BBQ.

To assist with catering purposes and jobs to be allocated, please complete and return the attached form or sign up online at
https://signup.com/go/Ksedsof . Let us know If you have particular skills or tools that will help, we will contact you closer to the date with specific details of the working bee tasks.

Colour fun run – Friday 13 December

Whole school colour fun run kindly organised by our P&F group. More details about the event have been released under events on Compass.

Student fundraising has already started. Anyone who missed out on obtaining a sponsorship form, additional copies are available at the MSPS office. Students obtain donations in cash using the sponsorship form together with online fundraising.

It is encouraged to donate at least $5-$10 to participate in the colour explosion event or in addition students who raise as little as $10 or more, will receive an incentive prize for their efforts. Students have the option to choose up to five prizes and this will set your fundraising goal. Family and friends are your greatest supporters, so ask them first for your support. You will reach your fundraising goal in no time.

Fete News

Montmorency South Primary School will hold a Fete on Sunday March 15 2020, 10am to 5pm, and we are seeking your assistance in making the fete a great success.  As a first step in planning for this exciting event we are reaching out to you, our school community for support.

  • Do you, your family or friends have a business, product(s) or service that you/they would like promoted amongst the Monty South Primary School and wider Eltham/Monty/Briar Hill community?  We have sponsorship packages for advertising and promotion.
  • Do you work for a larger corporate company that is known to donate?
  • Would you like to donate a product or service to our online auction?  Ideas include….
  • a free trade service, consultation or session from a service provider
  • accommodation/leisure products – a weekend beach house rental, a hotel stay or a discount on rental fees,
  • a product from your business, a signed book or original artwork
  • a discount voucher for your business/service
  • tickets for activities, shows or events
  • tuition fees or lessons / party packs etc
    1. Note: vouchers should have validity date 6 or 12 months from 15 March 2020.
  •  Are you an entertainer who can perform on our “Main Stage”? We’d love any students, ex-students or parents to be involved, as well as local teaching schools and groups.  We’re not limiting this to dance and music; we’d love to include magic, martial artists, and mindfulness sessions.
  • Would you like to sell your product on the day at our mini-market? The site fee to hold a market stall at the MSPS Fete is $50. We welcome expressions of interest from food & produce makers, art/craft makers, jewellery, soap/candles, plants, clothing, toys, etc.
  •  Do you sew? Would you be interested in helping us make bags that will be offered for decorating and sale on the fete?

By donating and contributing to the MSPS Fete you will not only build brand awareness and showcase your products and services amongst a captive local audience, but also demonstrate your company’s social responsibility and care for the community.  Funds raised from your contribution will help the students, families and the wider community enjoy much needed playground facilities at MSPS.

Please use the attached form to let us know how you can help or feel free to forward them on to your friends who may be interested.

Thank you in advance for your help.
