Book Parade 2019

Book Week this year is being celebrated 17th August until 23rd August. We have been so busy as a school packing, moving and unpacking and also getting ready for the Junior School Concert, we have decided to leave our book parade extravaganza until Wednesday the 9th of October, the first week in Term 4.

This way we will have lots of time to prepare and it also allows for the children to come up with lots of creativity in the holidays.

The children, staff and myself are loving our new library. In the next couple of weeks our new picture book boxes will be delivered and we can’t wait for that. It’s such an exciting time.

Any questions regarding the book parade please don’t hesitate to email me at iob.clare.e@edumail.vic.gov.au

Reading rocks!

Case of Human Parvovirus (Slapped cheek)

We have been notified of a case of Human Parvovirus (Slapped Cheek) within the Year 2 area. Parvovirus, also known as slapped cheek syndrome, is a common childhood viral infection which produces a bright red rash on the cheeks ('slapped' cheeks). The first symptoms usually appear 5 to 7 days after exposure to an infectious person. The rash appears after 14 to 21 days. Once the rash starts, people are no longer infectious.
Symptoms start with:

  • fever
  • tiredness
  • runny nose
  • joint pains

This is followed by a bright red rash on the cheeks and a generalised 'lacy' rash on the body that spreads down the arms and legs. The rash lasts 7 to 10 days and is sometimes itchy.

It is important to note that in rare cases, this infection in a pregnant woman can cause severe anaemia in her unborn baby. This occurs in less than 5 per cent of all pregnant women who are infected and usually occurs during the first half of pregnancy.

More information can be found at: https://www2.health.vic.gov.au/public-health/infectious-diseases/disease-information-advice/erythema-infectiosum-slapped-cheek
