WHOLE SCHOOL

Over the next 10 days we will be sending home student enrolment information forms.  We ask that all families have a close look at the information we have on our records, and make changes as necessary (ie new phone numbers, email addresses, home addresses etc).  It is important that we have the most up to date contact and medical information in case we need to contact families quickly.  Please return the forms even if no information has changed to either the office or classroom teacher.

Parent Opinion Survey
In week 1 of Term 3 a random selection of families would have received an email asking for them to fill in a Department of Education Parent Opinion Survey.  If you were one of these families who did received the email and have not filled in the survey we would like to remind you to fill it in soon.  If you did receive the email but have lost the link please contact the school office.

1  Chess club Term 3
Chess club will resume on Monday 23rd July from 3:30pm-4:30pm.  Our chess teacher Frank has opened up the first class on the 23rd to any potential students who would like to see what chess club is about.  Chess club will be running every Monday from the 23rd July for the duration of Term 3.  The cost of Term 3 chess club is $100.  Please contact the school office if your child is interested in joining.

2   Camp Australia – New Child Care Subsidy (CCS)
On the 2nd of July 2018, the Government’s new Child Care Package was launched – replacing the previous Child Care Rebate (CCR) and Child Care Benefit (CCB) with a single Child Care Subsidy (CCS).   This new subsidy is available to all families using Camp Australia services, and may affect the amount of fee assistance that each family will receive.  Please find more information attached below.

3   Research Survey – University of Queensland
Researchers from the Parenting and Family Support Centre at the University of Queensland are seeking families throughout Australia to take part in new research.  Their research will explore the role of supportive parenting in positive youth development for teenagers.

Who can participate?
Parents with teenagers aged between 11 and 17 who are living in Australia.
After completing the survey, parents can also invite their teenagers to take part.

What do parents and teenagers do?
Parents and teenagers will complete an anonymous online survey to provide information about how parents raise their teenagers, how teenagers and their parents get along with each other, and parents’ and teenagers’ wellbeing.

This survey will take up to 30 minutes to complete. Parents may participate even if their teenagers choose not to.

More information on the survey can be found on our project website: https://exp.psy.uq.edu.au/parentingteens/project/mentalhealth.
All participating families can enter a prize draw for a $100 Coles-Myer gift voucher as a token of appreciation for their participation.

How will families’ participation help?
The information that we obtain from families will help us learn more about how teenagers and their parents get along with one another and how this affects teenagers' wellbeing. Teenagers' relationships with their parents are important in helping teenagers become more resilient and better able to cope with strong emotions. This research can help us understand how supportive parenting can help teenagers be happy, healthy and reach their full potential.

1     We have used the G.A.T.E.W.A.Y.S. educational program here at MSPS for many years now.  GATEWAYS is an independent, non-funded organisation, which provides opportunities for highly able and gifted children.  Teachers nominate students for programs when they think a program might be a good fit with a student’s abilities and or interests.

Once you are sent an invitation to join a GATEWAYS program it is the responsibility of the parent to register for the class.  Classes can range from 1 to 4 days.  The school therefore does not know who will be attending what session.  To help us mark the absences correctly we are asking families to email the school with dates and times of programs registered for. Please send emails to montmorency.south.ps@edumail.vic.gov.au

Bianca Hrovat (Yr 1B) is the responsible teacher for the program this year.  If you have any questions about the GATEWAYS program please contact Bianca via email at hrovat.bianca.b@edumail.vic.gov.au .
