Anaphylaxis notification-Prep A

By | Uncategorized

Dear Parents of Prep A,

There are students in your child’s class who have severe allergies. Contact with the following food products could cause this child to go into anaphylactic shock:

  • Peanuts

This is a potentially life threatening allergic reaction which may result in a sharp  drop in blood pressure, hives, breathing difficulties, difficulty swallowing or speaking, a sudden feeling of weakness and/or unconsciousness. An anaphylactic emergency requires rapid treatment with medication, usually adrenaline.
The children in question are aware of how to manage the condition, the school staff are trained and there are action plans in place to respond to any emergency.
However, to further reduce the chance of such an emergency, we ask that you carefully consider what you send to school in your child’s lunch or snacks. We are seeking your assistance in curtailing the amount of these products in the classroom.
If you choose to celebrate your child’s birthday by sending a treat for the children in the class, please take care in the choice of treat you send.
Thank you for your assistance in this matter. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me.
